Sep. 09, 1955 - British commandos land in Cypros. The will Go Straight into action': Six hundred and thirty British Commandos landed at Famagusta, Cyprus yesterday from Malta - and another five hundred - from the 1st. Bn. South Staffordshire Regiment are expected from the Suez Canal today - adding to the three hundred that have already arrived. A spokesman at British Middle East Land Forces headquarters said that the new arrivals will go straight into action - in an effort to settle the troubled conditions there.
