Jun. 06, 1955 - To Rise In The Fall: Britain recently announced promotions for a top soldier and sailor. Photo shows General Sir Gerald Templer who in November will be Britain's top soldier, Chief of the Imperial General Staff. Now 57, in 1942 General Templer, at the age of 44, became the youngest Lt. General in the British Army. After the war he was made Director for Civil Affairs, Military Government, in occupied Germany and in 1946 became Director of Military Intelligence at the War Office, London. In 1948 he was appointed Vice-Chief of the Imperial General Staff and in 1952 became High Commissioner and Director of Operations in Malaya where he won world recognition as a soldier and administrator in the campaign against Communist terrorists
