1955 - Wartime ace is award winning test pilot; The Boyd Trophy, awarded annually in Britain for the most outstanding feat in naval aviation, was presented this year to the Naval Test Squadron at the Airplane and Armament establishment at Boscome Down, England, for its contribution to the improvement of naval aircraft and the testing of new and undeveloped types. During the war Commander Orr was a fighter pilot aboard the carrier Illustrious under Admiral Boyd's command. He shot down ten enemy aircraft in ten months
