Mar. 03, 1957 - The General And His Lamp-Post: General sir Robert Mansergh, Commander in Chief of United Kingdom Land Forces, used to dine at his Kensington home by the light of two candles and one lamp post, which was outside in the street, until one day he decided that the light from the lamppost was not cosy enough. So he wrote to the Kensington Borough Engineer, an as a result he went to the Corporation scrap hp and found another, for which he paid1-5-11 1/2. It now stands in his back garden.
