Aug. 08, 1956 - Indian is 1, 000th Colombo plan trainee: Mr. Bisheswar Prased Singh, an Indian steelworker, became the 1, 000th person to be trained in Britain under the Colombo Plan, project originally started by the British Commonwealth to raise the standards of living of a quarter of the earth's people in Southeast Asia. The Tata Iron and Steel Company's plant a Jamashedpurt, India is installing new blast furnaces as part of a £49 (37, 200, 000)plan to increase their output of steel, and Mr. Singh a blast furnace for man at the plant, is spending six months at a British steel works to gain experience in operating the new furnaces.
