Aug. 08, 1956 - Civil defence director general inspects new vehicles: The director General of Civil Defence General Sir Sidney Kirkman was to be seen in Westminster this morning inspecting some of the new Civil Defence Control vehicles which are to be issued shortly. The new Sector Control Unit consists of an operations vehicle and a Signal Office Vehicle and is fitted with wireless and telephones and the reconnaissance vehicles are land Rovers equipped with wireless.C.D. Operations can be directed in case of need from these vehicles in case of breakdown of the static control points.
