Aug. 08, 1956 - Operation Suez Begins. Somerset Light Infantry - At Plymouth; Many units of the Army have had their orders - following the Grab of the Suez Canal by Egypt's Colonel Nasser. Call-up orders are expected to be issued within the next 36 hours to more than 25, 000 Reservists - mostly army - so that they will be ready to protect the Canal - in case of need.
