Jul. 07, 1957 - Metropolitan on-the-beat policemen train on lightweight motorcycles.: About 450 officers of the Metropolitan Police are to receive training at the Hendon Police Driving School - on lightweight motorcycles for beat duty. The men will wear ordinary foot-duty uniforms with specially designed helmets. They will not doin the mobile police and will patrol at slow speed - but will be able to cover a wide area when on-the-beat.
