Mar. 08, 1958 - Brighton watch committee sack Chief constable Mr. Charles Ridge: The Brighton Watch Committee yesterday met in secret for nearly two hours yesterday and decided to sac the town's Chief Constable - Mr. Charles Ridge. Mr. Ridge was recently cleared of conspiracy to obstruct the course of justice in the nineteen day trial just completed. Mr. Ridge not only loses his ?1, 990 a year job but his ?1, 074 a year pension as well plus ?108 housing allowance; ?225 car allowance and ?7 - 16 - 0 boot allowance. Mr. Ridge rose from Sergeant to Chief Constable in Nine years the quickest rise to the top in history of British Police.
