Oct. 10, 1958 - Caravan Site Eviction Force Withdraws: Police and bailiffs, who went to the Caravan site at Chertsey-lanc, Egham, Surrey yesterday, to enforce a High Court order to clear the unlicenced site, were withdraw on the order of Judge P.L.E. Rawlings. He adjourned until next Wednesday an application made at Slough County Court for a stay of execution. When the bailiffs arrived, women dragged an old caravan across the site entrance. During the next four hours th bailiffs brought in two tractors, a llrry and a Land Rover to tow the caravans away. But one one by one the drivers told the law: I won't move these people, and four hours after the battle began, police and bailiffs withdrew.
