Sep. 09, 1958 - Brigadier And Accused Wife Slip Out Of Spain: Back home to London last night after a cloak-and-danger escape from watchful Spanish police and border guards came the English family Phillpotts. Their escape cost them nearly1, 000 -350 of it bail money forfeited in their dash for freedom. Retired Army brigadier Charles Phillpotts, 51, his wife Margaret, 46, and their daughter Janet, 5, docked at Tilbury in the 24, 000-ton linerrton which they boarded at Gibraltar. In the hold of the ship was their car also smuggled out of Spain. Exactly how they got away from Spain, where Mrs. Phillpotts faced charges of obstruction and assaultinga policeman, must remain a secret, because as Mrs. Phillpotts said it would get other people into trouble.
