Sep. 09, 1958 - A Docker takes time off from unloading ships to open east end Dockers pub: Today, 45-year-old docker George Denton, took time off from unloading ships in Victoria Docks to open a new public house, the New Gog in Freemason's Road, in the East End. He did so by drinking a yard of ale, beer contained in a 3ft. long glass tube shaped like a hunting horn. George says he has never drunk from one before, but admits he has had a little experience of drinking beer. The New Gog is the former Royal Albert which was completely demolished by enemy action on Jan. 13, 1945. Photo shows Capt.P.E. Courage (with patch over eye) unveils the new inn-sign outside the New Gog today
