1959 - The Duke of Bedford gets a ticket for Obstruction down Lambeth way.: Down Lambeth Way it is supposed to be everything free and easy, do as you darn well pleasy. But yesterday things were different. For the Duke of Bedford had parked his 21-foot of gleaming limousine slap in the middle of the barrow market. Then he caught an early morning train from Waterloo, just down the road, to Southampton. At eight o'clock, when the barrows from which secondhand bookseller Arthur Franklin sells his books. Arthur and some of the other barrow boys tried to move the car, but failed, so her called the police. Along came P.C. 424 and settled down to wait. Finally along came the Duke and the constable went over to him to take his particulars and ask him if he realised he had caused an obstruction in that spot for seven hours. P.C. 424 wrote out a memo requesting the Duke to report to a police station with license and insurance. The Luke asked the bookseller if he had really lost money and decided to buy a book for which he paid five shillings.
