May 05, 1959 - It Was Not A Mercy Killing, Says Dr. Millard Put Incurably Ill 80 Year Old Patient to Sleep. Fifty year old Dr. Maurice Millard of Leicester caused a sensation when he stated in a Rotary club speech that he had put an uncurably ill, 80 year old patient to sleep, said yesterday that it was nonsense to call it a mercy killing'. He said that all he did was to give her a drug to put her to sleep, and to keep her asleep until she died.
