Oct. 10, 1959 - General Sir Richard Gale to Open Pegasus Village. General Sir Richard Gale, who commanded the 6th Airborne Division in the Normandy Landings, is on Saturday to declare officially open, Pegasus Village, Outside Aldershot - where members of the Parachute Regiments - of which General Gale is Colonel Commandant - are buying caravans by instalments from the Army to overcome the shortage of married quarters. More than 20 families are already living in the village which taken it's name from the mythological winged horse adopted by the Airborne Forces as their emblem.
