Aug. 08, 1958 - Britain welcome the Nautilus.: The United States nuclear - powered submarine Nautilus was given a big welcome when she arrived at Portland Harbour yesterday - her first port of call following her historic voyage which took hey under the North Pole. Photo shows Chief Torpedoman Lynus J. Larch, of Hancock, Michigan (peaked cap), who received the Presidential Unit Citation on behalf of the crew from the American Ambassador, shows the award to other members of the crew, who are (L to R): Robert Rockerfeller, of New York; Richard T.
