Nov. 01, 1959 - Royal Marine Commando Just Fails To Set Up New Marching Record.: Corporal Ronald Knight, 28 year old Royal Marine Commando from Romford, Essex - member of the Royal Marine Forces Volunteer Reserve, City of London Unit - arrived at Charing Cross Station this afternoon - at the end of his week-end walk. He unluckily had to give up just South of Epping - 10 miles short of Stratford because of a pulled muscle. He was trying to beat the record set up by Lieut. Wayne B. Nicholl of the U.S. Army - who walked 104.8 miles in 40 and a half hours. He completed the journey from Epping to Charing Cross by transport. Photo shows Corporal Ronald Knight strides out the last few yards - into the station - after travelling by truck from Epping this afternoon
