Twenty four old Peter Degnan of the Royal Marines walked the 110 miles from Poole, Dorset to Charing Cross, London in just under 36 hrs. 30 minutes. thus breaking the record of the American Marine who walked 104.8 miles in 40 hours 30 minutes. He was accompanied on the walk by other marines as pacemakers followed by a truck obtaining a doctor and two cooks.
