1952 - Dr. Johnson House Is No. 1, Gough Square, off busy Pleat street in Open to the Public again after having survived the investigation of the blitz which has completely rust of the environs. Here, in this quint old house lived Dr. Samuel Johnson and it was here he wrote the diary which made him world famous. Regarded almost as a shrine by many, especially Americans, it is now presided over by the curatrix, Mrs. Phyllis Rowell, who succeeded her mother, the late Mrs. Doyle, in the task. Mrs. Rowell lives as it were, in Johnson's day and frequently refers to the Doctor as if he were still living
