Dec. 16 HAS THIS CHAP GOT AN AXE TO GRIND? What's this then? It seems as if this chap is going to give somebody or something the chop. Perhaps somebody has got Beeching's Axe out of the shed again? Well, despite all the speculation, there's no need to fear this chap with the axe. His name: Peter Parker, the new Chairman of British Rail, who takes over from Sir Richard Marsh, this month. Mr. Parker, formerly head of the giant Rockware Glass Company, has had to endure the misfortune of a cut in salary, to the tune of around £800.00 a week! Some salary cut! His wife, Jill Parker, featured here in the picture, says that the family will have to tighten their belts a bit, but she doesn't think that the money aspect of her husband's new job is all that important
