Feb. 26 Lord Mayor's Coachman Prepares for the Big Day. The man with the trickiest job in the Lord Mayor's Show is 52 year old Mr. Henry Hawkins, driver of the Lord Mayor's coach. Mr. Hawkins is a skilled man with horses and he has to be to control the six dray horses which pull the 3 tons 16 cwts coach, for the coach has no brakes. The coach was built about 1757 and at the time the Alderman were called upon to pay 0 each and the Lord Mayor 00. The panels on the body of the coach are the work of the Florentine painter, Giovanni Battista Cipriani. these panels and the carvings surrounding them have been retouched this year for the first time for 25 years, so that however dull the weather may be the coach will shine and glitter during its annual appearance in the City streets. Mr. Henry Hawkins, 52 year old driver wearing his fine livery of bottle green velvet coat and hat rimmed with gold lace stands in front of the newly painted Lord Mayor's Coach
