Jul. 07, 1955 - Bailiffs Break Into The House of Siege.Five Year Struggle in Streatham Ends. A crowd of onlookers watched when police and bailiff's men broke into the home of the Corbettis family at Streatham Hill _ thus ending the five year struggle between the family and the L.C.C. The four-storey house was holding up the completion of a block of new flats - and it had been purchased by the L.C.C. - but the family refused to leave. Members of the family threw buckets of water over the police and bailiffs before entry into the house was gained.
