The Mayer is elected froc the City Alderman, by over 15, 000 liverymen (affiliated to Livery companies, or the Old City Guilds), he then becomes head of the City Corporation, resides at the Dead of the Court of Corson Council of the City, is Chief Magistrate of the City, and lives at the Mansion Douse in the City, . During his term of Office, which confers the status of Knighthood automatically, he the City's official host to all visitors, and make over 300 speeches a year.
