Dec. 12, 1959 - Hundreds of Policemen hunt the cruellest killer of the century: As hundreds of policemen last night desperately hunted the cruellest killer of the century they were still hampered by the fantastic silence of a bus load of people who travelled with the murderer. Four days have passed since a sex maniac murdered 29-year-old Sydney Stephanie Baird at a Y.W.C.A. Hostel in wheeleys-road, Edgbaston, Birmingham. Mrs. Evelyn Peake, wife of the Licensee of the Welcome Inn, near the hostel, had just got off a bus a number 8 Birmingham Corporation bus on Wednesday evening. She said the man was slumped against the wall - his face was dirty and his clothing was bloodstained. There were sixty passengers on the bus - but despite TV, radio and cinema appeals during the Christmas Holiday, only one passenger has come forward, Photo shows a reconstructed picture taken at the bus stop where the maniac slumped against a wall before boarding a number 8 bus on the night of the crime
