Feb. 26 The Juggernaut Versus The Village Of North Walsham: The sleepy Norfolk village of North Walsham came face to face with a 44-ton juggernaut this week- and almost won. The giant lorry, a prototype on a test run, brought maket day in the village to a standstill as it crawled around the attractive old houses and squeezed between the market cross and a no waiting sign. But North Walsham had a trick up its sleeve; The railway bridge on the road out of the village. the juggernaut roared up to the bridge and came to a full stop. Test driver Jim Collins leaned out of h is cab and surveyed the situation. Eventually he backed up, took to the wrong side of the road where the surface was slightly lower and squeezed under the bridge with hardly an inch to spare. The juggernaut was on an approved route for its test run from North Walsham where the Crane-Fruehauf make 40-foot containers, to the Motor industry research association's test track at Nuneaton.
