Mar. 27 Amnesty international - London: Amnesty International was first set up following an appeal made in a London newspaper for help on the forgotten prisoners. The article had been written by Peter Benenson, later, other foreign newspapers followed suit and public opinion was brought to the attention of the plight of these prisoners and so a group was set up which became the birth of Amnesty international. Based in Southampton Street, London, this H.Q handling a world wide network of Amnesty Branches has none of the luxuries of the offices that make them almost livable. A plain straight forward almost modest amount of equipment; is more than adequate for the staff of men and women that serve the cause, Many of them once themselves prisoners of cruel regime; wanting no publicity, just the chance to help others that are suffering and give them that precious life line that Amnesty gave them. The forgotten prisoners are Amnesty Internationale aim, to free by world wide campaign by receiving public support and the backing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights set up in 1948, The United Nations International Covenant Civil and Political Right 1966 and also the Declaration adopted by the United Nation General Assembly on 9th December 1975 on the Protection of all persons from torture and other cruel inhuman or degrading treatment
