Olivia De Havilland On The Island Of Her Ancestors: Guernsey is celebrating 900 years of association with Britain. The main event is a revival of a pageant - La Chevauchec de St. Michel, last performed a hundred years ago. Participants will be direct descendants of those taking part in 1813. Chief of those is actress Olivia de Havilland who is the great-great-granddaughter of Sir Peter de Havilland who was the island's Bailiff in 1813. She has had a dress specially made for her in Paris, and played the role of Lady de Havilland, Sir Peter's wife. Five hundred people are involved in the pageant, whose chief organizer is Br. C. Northcots Parkinson (of Parkinson's Law fame) who is a seigneur of two Guernsey fiefs. The procession covers 23 miles of route, during which all incidents knows to have taken place in 1813 were re-enacted. Summary fines (sonus) were exacted, dances of disrespect performed round stones which were central points of pre-christian fertility rites (sometimes referred to as sex-orgies), and the pions exercised ancient rites to kiss shy woman crossing their path. Olivia De Havilland By The Portrait Of Her Great Aunt Catherine And In The Grounds Of The Manor: Before taking part in the pageant in Guernsey, Miss Olivia de Havilland posed exclusively for those pictures at Sausmarez Manor, St. Martin's Guennsey, where she spent the night as guest of Deputy (M.P.) Cecil de Sausmarez, before being the guest of the Lt. Governor, Lt. Gen. Sir Charles Coleman. Her husband is executive editor of Paris Match. Miss de Havilland's outfit was made by Mlle Renet of Paris who said it was the most extraordinary assignment of her career, being based on a drawing Miss de Havilland found in a history book Walking Dress 1813
