Apr. 17 Diver in a Hurry to get out of the Cold: In a biting east wind and a temperature of 25 degreees, divers of the Royal Navy carried out an exercices in the River Thames opposite the Houses of Parliament, London, to give them training in murky and tidal water found in commercial ports and rivers. They wore light self-contained suits and carried their own oxygen supplies, making them independent of air hoses and air pumps from attendant craft. Photo shows Able Seaman Geral McInally of Glasgow makes a flying start to a dive. After three minutes below in a temperature of 47 degrees (made so mostly by hot water from a near - by power station) he said of the 25 degrees at the surface, Baby, it's cold up here
