Apr. 17 Trussing Ceremony: Twenty-one year old James William Elliot, of Dagenham, Essex - he was 21 yesterday and Cooper apprentice at Whitbread's. the City of London Brewers, was inanities into the Cooperage by his colleagues, when he went though the traditional ceremony of trussing the cooper, one of the privileges of a member of the Coopers Co, is that he can become a freeman and of the City of London. The boy was carried and placed into a newly-made barrel, covered and then rolled round the brewery floor, taken out, bounced, and finally given a pint of beer and congratulated by his antagonists.
