Jun. 06, 1961 - Bechuamaland takes a big star toward Independence new legislative council inaugurated: The Bechuamaland Protectorate which has a population of 3, 000 Whites and 250, 000 Natives took an important step toward self-government Tuesday when the new Legislative Council was officially inaugurated by the United Kingdom High Commissioner, sir John Maud.
