Dec. 12, 1961 - Merger Talk:1, 000 million merger between Imperial Chemical Industries, Britain's biggest industrial company, and Courtaulds, the textile and chemical giant, is being discussed. This was revealed to-day in a statement by ICI. This said that friendly discussions had been taking place between the two companies for some months. This would be the biggest industrial merger in Britain of all time. Sir John Hanbury-Williams, chairman of Courtaulds, was the missing man at a press conference held by ICI at its Millbank headquarters this afternoon to give details of the proposed take-over.
