Jun. 06, 1960 - 11-year old Colin quits the Army: Colin Nash, the Army's youngest ever recruit, was given an honourable discharge yesterday, after three days service, and because of his age he's only 11 he was taken back to London by Sergeant Sid Andrews and handed over to his mother. Colin's Army career began last Friday at Waller Barrackes in Wiltshire. He was takne there by his big brother, Private Peter Nash. Peter arrived holding his kitbag in one hand and Coling in the other. He explained: Colins's my favourite brother. I just couldn't leave him behind in London. My mother's due to be evicted from her flat'. The Army gave young Coline shelter, He slept in Hut 20 with the sergeants. But the adjutant warned. Young Colin cannot remain here permanently. Yesterday, the boy was due to be sent to a children's home in Wiltshire. But his mother, Mrs. Florence Nash, made a frantic last minute appeal. Please send Colin home. We still have a roof over our heads. And so Colling was taken to London and returned to his mother at her flat in Brixton, Mrs. Nash who is a cleaner at the House of Commons. We are under notice to quit. My mother was tenant of the flat, but she has died'. Today she is expecting the bailiffs. The L.C.C. has refused to transfer to tenancy to Mr.s Nash.
