Aug. 08, 1964 - R.A.F. Helicopter Rescues Army Parachutist from the Channel.: Crowds gathered at Walmer, nr. Dover today to watch Lieut. Gerald Gooderham make an attempt to cross the channel by parachute - towed by an R.A.F. Launch. The vessel did not get sufficient speed quickly enough to get the Lieut. airborne - and he floated on the water for a time - when a gust of wind caught the parachute and lefted it ever him. Holidaymakers looked on while he struggled to free his face and hands - when an R.A.T. Helicopter lowered a winchman - who picked him off the sea and carried him to came round and said I will try again tomorrow Photo shows Lieut. Gooderham is revived on being taken to the beach by the R.A.J. Rescue Helicopter nr
