Mar. 03, 1964 - Rooftop drama in Bloomsbury Policewoman make Dramatic Rescue: For eight minutes yesterday as hundreds of people watched from below - thirty year old Thomas French stood precariously balanced at the top of a four storey building - sixty feet above the street in Bloomsbury-London-holding his eighteen months old son Stewart in his arms - threatening to jump off. French said that he had been evicted from his home and that his wife had left him. Fireman and Policewoman Margaret Cleland (23) gathered on the roof and tried to reason with him. Margaret talked - and talked and slowly edged her way nearer to French - and Finally just managed to grab the baby - while policemen caught hold of French and stopped him toppling off the roof.
