Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery was the guest of honour at the meeting of the ancient Courts of Brotherhood and Guestling of the Confederation of the Cinque Ports - at Hastings. The Brotherhood is a body dating from the middle ages when the Cinque Ports defended the country from invasion - and the Courts of Brotherhood safeguarded the interest of the Ports and Ancient Towns'. After walking in traditional procession through the town Monty was presented with a Silver Winkle by the Hastings Winkle Club..He becomes the third person to receive the honour..
