Oct. 10, 1962 - London Sees the Festival of Misfits. The Festival of Misfits, the first exhibition in Britain of a crazy avant garde art movement which has swept America, France and Germany, opened at Gallery One, Mayfair this morning. Its nine exponents in this exhibition, a group of cosmopolitan all sorts, believe that art must be participated in to be appreciated. Picture shows: Emmett Williams, an American, with what is called his Universal Poem -- a White wall where the public is invited to use rubber stamps --- to participate in, not just look at, art
