Aug. 08, 1965 - Karen Muir Fails To Break Her Own World Record Wonder Swimmer, 12 year old South African Karen Muir cried out at the Derby Baths, Blackpool, last night (Wednesday), when she failed by just two-tenths of a second to break her world record of 24 hours earlier. thousands of spectators cheered as Karen easily won the final of the girls 110 yards backstroke championship of England. Earlier in the day she had also won the final pf the Girls 220 yard Freestyle, with a time of 2.23.8. The day previous.(Tuesday), in heat, had broken the world record, and became the youngest world record breaker in the history of a sport. her time was 68.7 secs.
