Oct. 26, 1962 - 26-10-62 Up and Up Goes London Tallest Building London tallest building is expected to be completes next year, it is the Post Office Radio Tower alongside the Museum telephone exchange near Tottenham Court Road. It will be 603 ft. high. The main function of the tower will be to relay television programmes between studio control centres and transmitters. It will also carry aerials and other radio equipment for trunk telephone traffic replacing underground cables. The inner concrete core will house lifts air ducts post office cables etc. and the lifts will take passengers upwards at the rate of eight miles an hour. Floors and rooms will be built out 15ft. around the core. A revolving air conditioned restaurant will be built 500 ft. above street level. Cost of the project will be £1, 700, 000.
