Jan. 01, 1966 - A Tower Of London Chapel Regains Its Royal Status At A Special Service Of Re-Instantement: After a lapse of more than two centuries, the Chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula in the Tower of London was restored to its ancient status as Chapel Royal at a special service of re-instatement conducted by the Bishop of London, Dr. Robert Stopford, in his capacity as Dean of the chapels Royal, today. The Rev Stanley Michael who after historical research and consulting many authorities had established the Chapel's royal status beyond doubt, was installed as the first royal chaplain for several centuries. The Chapel was built about 1105 for the sovereign's public worship by Henry 1, and has twice been rebuilt and restored. During today's ceremony a memorial to Field-Marshal Lord Alanbrooke, constable of the Tower from 1950 to 1955, was unveiled by the chief yeomen Warder, Mr. G. Arnold.
