Oct. 10, 1966 - Midnight Rush To Buy Battle Of Hastings Stamps: Hundreds queued in Trafalgar Square last night to buy Battle of Hastings postage stamps. The stamps commemorating the battle - which took place 900 years ago today - were on sale from midnight. First to buy at the all-night post office in Trafalgar Square was Mr. Albert Davie, a carpenter from Southall, who had waited more that three hours. He spent100 on 20 sheets of fourpenny stamps, four sheets. Mr. Davie said he planned to catch the first train to Battle, Sussex, and post the stamps there on 1, 360 letters addressed to himself.
