Aug. 08, 1964 - R.A.F. Helicopter Rescuses Army Parachutist From Channel. Crowds gathered at Walmer, nr. Dover today to watch Lieut. Gerald gooderham make an attempt to cross the channel by parachute- towed by an R.A.F. Launch. The Launch did not get a sufficiently quick start to get Lieut. Gooderham into the air- so far a while he floated safely n the surface of the water then a gust of wind lifted the parachute and dropped it over the floating men and holidaymakers looked on as he struggled to get his face free- he appeared to lose consciousness. A Winchman was lowered from a helicopter which then lifted both men to the shore. The Lieutenant was unconscious when landed but he soon recovered - and sadi I will try again tomorrow.
