Jan. 18, 1967 - 18-1-67 European Orange Peeling Champion meets challengers Jose Turpin Madrid (Don Pepe), the European Orange Peeling Champion today confronted his first challenger in Britain, at Martinez Spanish Restaurant, London. The challenger was a Spanish waiter from Madrid called Julian Merchan, now resident in London. A surprise challenger from Australia, Mr. Leigh Bottrell, also met Don Pepe today. Don Pepe, a Valencia restaurant owner is offering a ten day holiday in Spain with all expenses paid to anyone beating his orange peeling time. However, the orange must be peeled using only a knife and fork without touching the fruit by hand. The akin and fastest time ever is 12.5 seconds, although he claims 15 seconds as average.
