Dec. 12, 1967 - I will clear my name, says Car Park Man.: The company chairman, who was named by a judge on Monday as the man behind the 300, 000 London Airport car-park swindle, said last night I am absolutely intent on clearing my name. Mr. Richard Pointer, 39, of Iver Bucks, head of Airpark Garages, had just spent 66 minutes with a libel specialist, Mr. Collin Duncan, Q.C. asked if he would be taking any further action, he said: That you must wait and see. I have no statement to make other than that made by my solicitor. At the Old Bailey on Monday the Common Sejeant, Judge Marvyn Griffith-Jones, described one of 12 men convicted of taking part in the car-park swindle as one of the two principals in this fraud, after and under Pointer'. Mr. Pointer's Airpark Garages formerly held the parking concession at London Airport, Heathrow. Mr Pointer's solicitor, Mr. Arthur Boot, said in a statement yesterday that an issue of fundamental constitutional importance seemed to be involved in the Common Serjeant's remarks. This issue is that the basic concept of law that a person is innocent until he is proved guilty appears to have been replaced in this case by a doctrine that a court can, on its own initiative, accuse and condemn a person who is neither charged nor tried.
