Feb. 02, 1968 - THEY JOINED AS NAVAL AIRMEN SECOND CLASS AND RETURN AS REAR ADMIRALS. Naval Airmen seconded class Empson and Roberts, joined the Fleet air arm on the same day in April, 1940, at H.M.S. Vincent, the Gosport training establishment. Yesterday, they made a nostalgic return there - but now they are Rear Admiral Derek Empson, Flag Officer Aircraft Carriers, and Rear Admiral S.K. Roberts, D.S.O. Flag officer Naval Flying Training.
