Sep. 09, 1969 - The Barquentine Regina Maris to Follow the Route Of Captain Cook The Barquentine Regina Maris leaves Plymouth tomorrow to follow the route of Captain Cook's first voyage to Australia via Cape Horn. She will officially represent Kongelig Norsk SailForening - The royal Norwegian Yacht Club - in Sydney during Cook bicentenary celebration in April 1970. This Epic journey by Regina Maris will be a Norwegian tribute to Captain Cook. She will return to Plymouth via the Cape of Goood Hope - the total voyage taking about 13 months. The owner/ captains of the Regina Maris are Norwegian Master Mariners, John Aage Wilson and his brother Siegfried Wilson. The Clipper/Barquentine Regina Maris slid off the docks at Svendborg, Denmark, in 1908, was damaged by fire in 1964 and was taken back to Norway for complete rebuilding. The period of appearance has been carefully preserved. The wife and month old baby of Captain John Wilson will be sailing on this voyage to Australia.
