Dec. 12, 1965 - In Britain it takes more than a flood to interrupt Sunday Lunch: The common for yesterday was water there were flood everywhere and in Shrowsbury they went to great lengths to make sure no one went without Sunday lunch. For Sunday lunch is a time honoured ritual a tradition that cannt be broken by a more flood. The council organised emergency cooking session in school canteens and proceed though beef stew and vegetables for 180 people hose homes had been out of by floods for 36 hours. The Women's Voluntary Sevice, who are always very quich on the scene at such times, helped with the distribution. Many of the meals went by lorry as the flood waters everywhere began rceding. But there were some houses that could only be reached by boat. Photo shows the council punt stops at the bottom of the garden of a flooded house in Shrowsbury, and the hot lunch of beef stew and vegetables is served to the householders cut off by the flood waters
