Mar. 03, 1968 - Gallantry Award For Aden Sniper: A Royal Marines sniper who killed or wounded eight Aden terrorists for the expenditure of 18 rounds, of ammunition has been specially - commanded for gallant and distinguished conduct. The man is Marine Michael Harrison, 28, married of Peak Drive, Eastry, Sandwich, Kent, a member of 45 Commando. he was in a position overlooking Crater under sporadic small-arms fire and was the target of a blindside (anti - tank missiles and grenades) attack, the Defence Ministry stated yesterday. Over a period of four days, working with another sniper position, he systematically eliminated terrorist snipers opposing him so that all terrorist fire ceased during daylight hours. The citation of Adml. Sir Michael Le Fanu, formerly Commander-in-Chief, Middle East, now First Sea Lord, said Marine Harrison showed a standard of professional skill and devotion to duty of the highest order and made the greatest single contribution to the successful control of terrorism in successive company areas.
