Aug. 08, 1969 - MOCK ATTACK ON GIBRALTAR: Two commandos seen in conference, after they had landed on the island here yesterday, during which 750 men took part in a mock attack. The commandos staged a helicopter borne assault on the island from the Commando carrier Bulwark (23, 000 tons). The exercise was code named Rock Climb'. Among those defending Gibraltar were the 2nd Batallion of the Royal Irish Rangers, and the Royal Anglian Regiment. The Mock attack was a British production to see how successful an enemy equipped with modern arms might be in an attack on the impregnable rock fortress
