Sep. 09, 1970 - Tree tops aren't just for birds - so says Postman Bob Tiffen: Tree tops aren't just for birds says postman Bob Tiffen. There is nothing he enjoys more than relaxing in his garden chair - on top of a sixteen-foot-high tree. Whenever he feels like a quite read, he climbs a ladder to the top of his weeping Ash tree which grows outside his home, Troutbeck Cottage, Heads Nook, Cumberland, England. He says it is an ideal place to get away from it all, much to the amusement of passers-by as they see him sitting there. The tree has grown inhis garden for hudreds of years. It is well looked after and has been pruned and trimmed so that the branches are inter-woven. There is no danger of the chair falling off - or through the branches. In fact says Mr. Tiffen It is so safe you could even walk on top of it of you wanted to'. Photo shows Mr. Tiffen sits on top of the 16-foot-high ash tree, while his mother prefers a chair below
