Feb. 09, 1970 - Royal Marine Commandos in the Arctic: First pictures from Norway of 45 Commando Royal Marines, Britain's first specialized Mountain and Arctic Warfare Unit undergoing extensive training in Arctic conditions. For many of the commandos it is the first experience operating in sub zero temperatures, living out in the mountains in snow holes and igloos. New equipment being tested by the marines include the Canadian snow tric, a four man ski scooter and a track snow vehicle from Sweden. 45 Commando's Navy doctor is subjecting medical equipment to tests in the severe conditions. Working with the Commandos are Wessex helicopters of 845 Naval Air Commandos Squadron and elements of 29 Commando Light Regiment, Royal Artillery, flown in from tropical Singapore.
